Doula Angels Fund
The Doula Angels fund has been set up to provide additional care to every woman in need and unable to afford a Doula Angel. The Doula Angels reserve an amount from each birth, which is refunded to the midwifery practice recommended by the client. This way, the midwifery practice can use this money at its own discretion.
From each payment made, €100 is reserved for the Doula Angels fund and will be paid back to the midwifery practice who has forwarded a (paying) client to the Doula Angels.
THE DOULA ANGEL FROM THE DOULA ACADEMIE
A Birth Doula from the Doula Academie has invested in her education, in her business, and continues to do so throughout her membership with the Doula Academie. The only way to sustainably offer doula services is if there is a fair exchange (of value) between the services provided and enjoyed.
A Doula Angel acknowledges that there are women who may not be able to afford her normal or even reduced Doula Angels rate. That's why she's part of the Doula Angels team and also fully supports the Doula Angels fund. She works within the Doula Angels team at a lower rate than in her own practice and also donates money, so that from every birth support, additional care or items go to those women who can benefit from it the most. We gladly refund that to the midwifery practice, which can then use it at their own discretion!
If a client were to independently hire a Doula Angel for doula services through her private practice, the client would inevitably spend more money than she would on the Doula Angels doula service. This makes EVERY Doula Angel a true angel. She offers her doula services below the current market value and can only do so because she is part of a doula pool; a group of doulas who, in rotating shifts, share the on-call responsibilities and last-minute doula obligations.
Becoming a Doula Angel is not a decision made casually: the Doula Academie personally invites birth doula's to join the Doula Angels team. The Doula Angels are all certified Birth Doulas who meet the membership requirements of the Doula Academie. This ensures that the Doula Angels' clients are ensured to receive recognized and qualified care, to support them during their clinical pregnancy and/or childbirth.
When an expectant mother believes she may be eligible for funds from the Doula Angels fund, it is up to the (primary care) midwife to determine if she indeed qualifies. The practice can then use this money at its discretion.
The idea behind the Doula Angels fund originated from the belief that every pregnant woman should have access to extra care or resources, even if she is not financially capable.
